Orthognathic means “straight jaw”. Corrective jaw surgery moves a misaligned jaw into a better position. It is needed when the upper and lower jaws don’t meet as they should, or when there isn’t enough jawbone for the teeth and they are crowded.
Signs you may need it
- an injury to the jaw
- a jaw that is out of line
- top and bottom teeth that don’t meet when you bite
- trouble or discomfort biting or chewing
- difficulty swallowing
- difficulty pronouncing words because of how the jaw sits
- a face that looks unbalanced
- an upper or lower jaw that is too large or too small
- breathing through your mouth all the time, and a dry mouth
What it does
The surgery moves your teeth and jaws into a new position. Your teeth then meet properly and work better, and your face looks more balanced.
Before treatment there’s a consultation with our dental specialists, and you can ask them anything about it.
