Wisdom tooth removal

For wisdom teeth that are painful, infected or crowding the teeth beside them.

Wisdom teeth are the molars right at the back of the mouth. Most people get them between the ages of 17 and 24. If they come through straight, they help you chew. For most people, though, they come in at an angle or don’t come through properly, and that causes painful problems.

Common problems

  • painful, swollen gums
  • infection, with pus coming from the gum line
  • crowding of, or damage to, the teeth around them
  • possible damage to nerves and the jawbone

Checking them early

Your dentist examines your mouth and takes X-rays to see where the wisdom teeth sit and whether they cause problems now or may later. The X-rays also show other risks, such as decay in the teeth nearby. We recommend having them checked early, usually in the mid-teens, so problems are found sooner and removal, if it’s needed, goes better.

Our dentists have the training, licence and experience to give the right anaesthesia to keep you comfortable. Book a check and we’ll give you a diagnosis and an estimate for removal or surgery.
