Your teeth and your age

How worn, yellowing teeth can make a face look older, and what veneers change.

Teeth change with age, and the change shows in your face.

Fewer lines above the lip

Fine lines on the upper lip come with age. Veneers give the upper lip better support, which stretches the skin a little and softens those lines.

A younger smile line

Teeth wear down over the years. The edges of the upper teeth fade and the arch of the teeth becomes flatter. Reshaping the teeth so they follow the line of your lower lip again makes you look much younger. GlamSmile veneers can do this.

Teeth as white as your eyes

When the white of your teeth balances the whites of your eyes, you look fresher and younger.

What white teeth do to your age

In a British study, 2,000 people guessed the age of a woman from a photo. One version showed her with bright white teeth, the other with yellowish, neglected teeth. With white teeth, people guessed she was about 31. With yellow teeth, they guessed 44, which is 13 years older.

The researcher, Dr Phil Stemmer, says a person’s teeth are the first thing people notice. People with neglected teeth smile less and make a poorer impression. Without realising it, others read things into those teeth about their lifestyle, character, relationships and career.

Good teeth help in a job interview and with customers and colleagues. Yellow, crooked or broken teeth can leave a poor impression.

Veneers make teeth look good, and by supporting the upper lip they also make you look younger. That does a lot for your confidence.
